Body Suits

These are so fun! Bodysuits are pretty much leotards or onsies if you will. They come in basic colors, fun prints or cutouts. If you're really creative you can even turn your one piece bathing suit into one. Bodysuits are paired well with anything really; it's like wearing a shirt pretty much. If you're into basic colored bodysuits I'd definitely check out American Apparel. They have a variety of colors. 

Neon

Very popular in 2011, neon is a pattern of bright fluorescent colors. I can't say I personally love love neon but I do like pops of neon colors in an outfit. When styling neon I would try not to overdue it. Try to do a neon top and purse or maybe neon pants and a neon hat. Keep the other pieces subtle so your neon pieces pop!

Flowers

                             

Flowers and floral prints are very big right now. If you haven't seen a blogger or festival goer in a flower crown you must have fallen off the face of the earth. My flower passion right now is actually these adorable sunflower shorts from American Apparel; I think I'm in love. Florals are fun and very versatile. They are good for being girly by keeping a common theme (floral on floral or floral with lace) or mixing prints (floral and stripes or floral and pastels). If you want to go for a girly look try a floral top and a circle skirt with ruffled socks and a pair of brogues. Or maybe you’re looking for an edgy look, try a floral dress a leather jacket and a pair of motorcycle boots. Lastly if you're not full on floral try a tomboy look with flair by wearing a basic tee a pair of jeans a nice coat and a floral scarf around your neck. Oh and don't forget to top an outfit off with a flower crown. you can definitely DIY your own. Check it out here!

The Infamous Headscarf

 The headscarf. It has made it's mighty return. I've decided the headscarf is going to be my signature look. Marilyn had one, Angelina has one, and the Doctor from season 8 had one. So I thought instead of just looking repetitive why not just coin it my thing, my niche, my signature. 

A signature look is something that can make you stand out. It's something you put forth so people remember you by. I like signature looks. I think they are cool in that you're declaring yourself an individual by showing who you want to be and what you want to be known by. Have you ever thought about what your signature look is?

Plaid, it's such a fun print. The versatile criss cross pattern is probably the easiest pattern to try to style. The first time I tried to style this plaid skirt from American Apparel I went for the most obvious look; school girl. I got the inspiration from catholic girl uniforms and for some reason I thought it was pretty cute. So there I was in the middle of the hallway in my white button down, yellow sweater vest, knee-high socks and saddle shoes, ready to take on the day. Needless to say after many stares, questions and comparisons to an anime character I can put this on in the fashion scrapbooks as a faux paux, but that day I decided I could take this skirt farther than Catholic schoolgirl. Since that day this skirt has been one of many greatest companions. It looks good with basic tee shirts and I loved it today with the black tank.

What's Up In Fashionland// White, Jerseys, and Cutout Heels

So I thought I'd start a segment on my blog that tells well as the title states "What's Up In Fashionland." Pretty much it's going to be a what's hot right now kind of post. Now let's quit the chit chat and get started!

All White Everything

If you haven't seen it yet than you must be hiding under a rock. All white outfits have been roaming the streets this summer with outfits that come off as fresh with a touch of innocence; talk about Like a Virgin. In my opinion I like the all-white look. It's a great look for a picnic or a great way to stand out if you're attending a fashion show or a big event. I would definitely recommend when trying the all-white trend to try to keep the common theme. Keep the whites very close in color so they are blend well and give a crisp look. Also if you want to look bold in an all-white outfit try to make one accessory one very bold color like a cobalt blue or a neon color such as orange or yellow.

Hut, Two, Throw Me a Jersey

I remember when I was younger I had a basketball jersey dress. It was so 2004, but I loved it. Nowadays in present times the jersey has come back. Not exactly in dress form, but it is a very chic tomboy staple that I can say I can't get enough of. There are loads of different jerseys out there such my favorites happen to be hockey, baseball and the shirts that just so happen to look like jerseys like the ones from the brand Pyrex. You can pair a jersey with a pair of heels, a beanie and a circle skirt for a tomboy meets girly girl look. Or maybe for a chill day pair it with a pair of boyfriend jeans, loafers, a knapsack and a baseball cap.

Cutout Shoes

This is probably one of my favorite trends right now! I am literally in love with cutout shoes. My favorites are all the Jeffrey Campbell one's such as Coltranes and Roscoes. Cut out shoes are great with any looks such as a ay of shopping, a museum outing or even a party. They're pretty edgy and look super cool with a rad par of socks. I would definitely recommend pairing a good pair of cutout shoes with a nice pair of rolled skinny jeans an a fitted blazer. You could also try them with a collared dress or lace to give it a good meets bad look.

Can you consider something vintage if you haven't worn it for about 3 or 4 years? I mean vintage means originating from a previous era and I consider 8th grade an era of shame I would not like to go back to, but that's a story for another day. 

When I was in 8th grade we had a formal at the end of the year. It was sort of like prom in middle school minus the having to find a legitimate date part and arriving in a rad whip but it was full of awkward newbie teens trying to figure out what kind of dancing would be "cool" to do. Thankfully enough the night had great food and I got a very interesting look at what my classmates fashion sense looked like. 

My dress for the night was the product of a long day at the mall and an indecisive mind. Those were the days when I wanted to be a nun and wear hoodies zipped up all the way to my forehead. However I did find myself in Hot Topic, literally the last place you'd think you'd find a prom dress. The dress, a black and white short tulle polka dot skirt with a black and white cheetah print top, is something I probably wouldn't pick up today but it is a great look at me starting to come out of my horrid fashion days. 

When I decided to do my outfit post I'd wanted to incorporate a little old with a little new. As I ran though my closet I came upon the dress and decided it would make for a nice skirt. I decided to pair it with my denim button down and a pair of hand me down ankle strap heels because I thought it would give it would give me sort of a modern 50's housewife look. I'm not exactly sure where that inspiration came from but I do like it quite a lot. Hope you enjoyed my history story for the day!

Tips From This Post

-If you have a really old (or vintage) piece in your closet don't be afraid to cut it, sew it, or rearrange it to something that you can incorporate with the new things in your wardrobe. It'll be just like buying a new piece!

- Look into your past for outfits that you liked then. They might just inspire you to try it out again. Like they always say "History always repeats itself."

-Polka Dots are an amazing statement piece and give your look a pop of fun!

Inspiration// Fruit

Once I read in a magazine how to find the perfect watermelon. It read something like the how yellow it was or how it smelled. Yeah I really don't remember but I now consider myself a watermelon connoisseur.  

Lately I've noticed a lot of my inspiration coming from bright, fun patterns. Ultimately I'm usually always finding my self scouring the internet for cutesy fruit themed apparel. So here are a few fruit themed pieces:

And last but not least here are some DIY Watermelon nails I did myself. They're a little messy but it was my first time. You know what they say practice makes perfect!
