Sometimes I wonder why we dress the way we dress. Is it because fashion magazines tell us 'prints are in' or because the famous girl on Lookbook wore her tights under her shorts. Nowadays we are all try to fit under one tab, different; but if the different tab is full of the same kind of thing is it really different? In the fashion world there are lots of what I like to call 'fashion stereotypes.' There's the tomboy, the girly girl, the punk rocker, the bohemian queen and the list goes on. Do you ever wonder how you shifted to the stereotype you most relate with?

When I started to think about the reasons on why I decided to dress the way I do I always found myself coming back to being different. I didn't want to wear the basic jeans and t-shirt combo and I didn't want to be the next Lolita princess, but I knew I wanted to be something. Something I can look back ages from now and be proud of, something I knew would express me without words. 

Today's outfit was inspired by the word Babe. It's the bio on my Instagram and it's the one word I can use to describe how I want to look in the morning oh and a cute guy or so. I ordered this shirt off of the Nylon Shop. It was about $32, breaking the bank in my opinion but I couldn't pass it up. So I ordered it in red and I counted down the days until it came! Another piece that I am super happy I ordered was this bandeau from American Apparel. If you look at my most recent What's Up in Fashionlanland post you will see I was ogling over the sunflower collection at American Apparel. When I saw this was only $16 I knew I had to have!

Today my family and I found our way downtown to the Taste of Chicago.It was mighty packed and the air smelled of delightful goods. Yum! I actually didn't eat anything when I was doing there seeing as thought I ate before. Why? I'm not for sure. 

To today's outfit. Alright this top, oh this top. When I first saw this top I was in love I can't express to you the last time I wore a halter top! My friend (doubtful as they are) believed that the top was going to be too small for me. After many try ons and even one from my smaller friend I proved to them that it obviously fit. I mean let's be serious I did try it on in the store. Also my handy dandy Corduroy Circle Skirt has gotten me in a many outfits and even works when I need to wear khakis. It's a little on the short side but it works well all in on. It also looks very good with over the knee socks. Hope everyone is having a good week!

Tips From This Post

-Tribal prints are great for summer! They are risque and the prints have great color and pattern.

-Halter tops are not just for the quaint young children. It can also be worn at a matured age. The right way of course. Nothing too tight and remember to wear the right bra!

-Circle Skirts are also a staple piece for summer and well any season at that. They are flirty, fun and make for a good addition to any outfit. I like them paired with brogues, or an over sized sweater with a button down underneath, or even tights and a pair of heels. The possibilities are endless. Here are a few of my favorites:

The Infamous Headscarf

 The headscarf. It has made it's mighty return. I've decided the headscarf is going to be my signature look. Marilyn had one, Angelina has one, and the Doctor from season 8 had one. So I thought instead of just looking repetitive why not just coin it my thing, my niche, my signature. 

A signature look is something that can make you stand out. It's something you put forth so people remember you by. I like signature looks. I think they are cool in that you're declaring yourself an individual by showing who you want to be and what you want to be known by. Have you ever thought about what your signature look is?

Plaid, it's such a fun print. The versatile criss cross pattern is probably the easiest pattern to try to style. The first time I tried to style this plaid skirt from American Apparel I went for the most obvious look; school girl. I got the inspiration from catholic girl uniforms and for some reason I thought it was pretty cute. So there I was in the middle of the hallway in my white button down, yellow sweater vest, knee-high socks and saddle shoes, ready to take on the day. Needless to say after many stares, questions and comparisons to an anime character I can put this on in the fashion scrapbooks as a faux paux, but that day I decided I could take this skirt farther than Catholic schoolgirl. Since that day this skirt has been one of many greatest companions. It looks good with basic tee shirts and I loved it today with the black tank.

-Try to find your own signature look. 

-Plaid is Rad!

-When basing a look on Catholic schoolgirls try to base it loosely. The full on look isn't the cutest.

Have you ever gone on vacation somewhere and you literally felt like a tourist? Your clad with your fancy camera around your neck and an "I <3 so and so" tee shirt clenching on your body and you just have this 'I'm so excited to be here' face on. I can say that I have caught myself in this predicament a time or so feeling like everyone was looking at me and rolling their eyes calling me a noob, but that's alright; to each his own. 

I particularly find myself liking really ugly things. Like not ugly as in a top with a really ugly puke green color scheme but like things other people find repulsive, unwearable and try to hide from the rest of civilization. I found this shirt in an overpriced vintage store in Little Five Points. A shirt like this would usually range for $4 or less in a normal thrift type store but somehow I couldn't find myself to pass this shirt up. Something about the pattern (which I am yet to figure out) made me want to be risky and try the curious top out. Months later I am satisfied with my purchase and feel like an adventurer whenever I have it on. 

Tips From This Post

-Don't be afraid to take risk with your clothes. Don't be scared to pick up something other people think is ugly.

-Hawaiian Shirts are life!

Stripes, you can't go wrong with them but you surely can go wrong without them. Stripes are a do, in that they DO accentuate certain body parts(and hide others if you catch my drift)and they DO go with pretty much any kind of style or outfit your trying out. My favorite stripes color combination is anything with red. Adding a pop of red to a black and white striped dress whether it be a cute pump or a chic belt will make your outfit stand out ten times more. You can also take your striping to the next level by pairing it with another print. Now take heed, mixing prints can be a challenge, but when done the right way you will be left with a tremendous result. Start out small with maybe stripes and plaid . The mix of the two very bold patterns will somehow mesh together. 

Today's outfit was inspired by stripes, well obviously. I adore this American Apparel crop top that I picked up on an unforeseen splurge while I was at my local store, that is a lie I definitely saw it coming. I was hooked on the Black and White trend that rocked spring this season and there was just something about stripes I felt I should have. I decided to pair it with my "mom jeans" as my dad calls them but I refer to them as high waist pants that I picked up on a thrifting trip and some classic chucks (*tip* when in doubt chuck it out). The scarf was kind of a last minute thing. Thankfully I had it because when bad hair day calls oh it calls. Well that's all for my first outfit post. Hope you enjoyed!
